Mahidol University places strong emphasis on research, and is arguably the most renowned university for research in Thailand. Thus, Mahidol University produced more international publications in Web of Science databases than any other Thai university over the period 1999 - 2017, amounting to a total of nearly 20,145 publications, of which 16,786 publications were articles/letters/reviews. During the same period, 13,306 of these publications were cited in Web of Science journals, amounting to a total of 272,682 citations (on May 1, 2017).
In addition, Mahidol University staff members have been awarded 22 Outstanding Scientist of Thailand Awards from the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology, and 31 Distinguished Researcher Awards from the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), as well as numerous Outstanding Inventor Awards, Young Scientist Awards, L'Oreal - UNESCO "Women in Science Awards", and several awards at international level.
