BMC Oral Health has published our Collection, Advancing oral medicine, which showcases the latest innovations in the field. We invited submissions covering various aspects of oral medicine, including, but not limited to, the diagnosis and treatment of oral mucosal disorders, oral cavity infections, oral lesions, salivary gland disorders, and temporomandibular disorders. We encouraged submissions that demonstrate the impact of oral medicine research in promoting overall health and well-being.

Alessandro Antonelli, DDS, PhDs, Magna Græcia University of Catanzaro, Italy

Dr Alessandro Antonelli graduated in 2018 from the Magna Græcia University of Catanzaro with a degree in dentistry. In 2021, he obtained the Master of Science in oral medicine at the University of Naples "Federico II.” Since 2022, he has been a PhD candidate in the PhD course in Life Sciences and Technologies at the Magna Græcia University of Catanzaro. In 2024, he qualified as an Oral Surgery Specialist, Magna Græcia University of Catanzaro, Italy. He is currently affiliated with the School of Dentistry in the Department of Health Sciences at Magna Græcia University.
 

Manish Devendra Mair, MS, MCh, University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust, UK

Mr Manish Devendra completed his training in Otolaryngology before delving into the intricacies of Head and Neck surgery at a cancer center in India. Pursuing global exposure, he relocated to the United Kingdom with a Fellowship in International Surgical Training from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, and refined his skills at the University of Hospitals of Leicester. Following this, he served as a postgraduate fellow in reconstruction and skull base surgery at John Hunter Hospital in Australia. 

His passion for research has led him to present numerous papers and posters at national and international conferences, spanning countries like India, Dubai, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States. He has been honored with awards and nominations for innovative projects, including recognition from the BMJ South Asian awards. With around 80 publications in esteemed journals and contributions to multiple textbooks, he strives to advance medical knowledge. As a member of the editorial review board for international journals, he is committed to fostering the dissemination of cutting-edge research. Driven by a relentless dedication to excellence, he continues to push the boundaries of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, leaving a lasting impact on the field.
 

About the Collection

BMC Oral Health has published our Collection, Advancing oral medicine.

This Collection highlights the latest advancements and innovations in oral medicine, covering basic, clinical, and epidemiological research in a wide range of topics crucial to the field, alongside health services and health policy research which aim to enhance the delivery of oral medicine to patients and communities. 

We invited submissions that explored the various aspects of oral medicine, including but not limited to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of:

  • Oral mucosal disorders 
  • Infections of the oral cavity
  • Potentially malignant and malignant oral conditions and lesions
  • Salivary gland disorders
  • Temporomandibular disorders
  • Oral manifestations of systemic disease, including patients who are being treated for systemic disease 
  • Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw

This Collection aims to advance our understanding of oral medicine and its importance in promoting overall health and well-being. This Collection aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
