BMC Research Notes called for submissions to a Collection on advancing healthcare research and education methods. This Collection showcased pioneering research in healthcare education, including pedagogical innovations, technology integration, assessment strategies, and more. Researchers were invited to contribute their expertise to shape the future of healthcare education and enhance the quality of patient-centered care.

Abdelrahman Elsayid, MBBCh, MPH, School of Public Health, Imperial College London, United Kingdom

Dr Elsayid (Publication Name: Abdelrahman M Makram) is an anesthesiology and intensive care medicine resident at October 6 University Hospital, a Master of Public Health candidate at Imperial College London, and a research fellow at the Orthopaedic Department of October 6 University. He has had a great interest in medical research since his second year of medical school. He has published more than three dozen papers in multiple fields, including orthopedics, medical education, women’s health, pediatrics, infectious diseases, and public health. He has also published a book chapter about the use of artificial intelligence in advancing medical biology. He serves as a peer-reviewer at more than twenty journals and an academic editor at four prestigious journals. His research mainly focuses on public health and women’s and children’s health.


Randa Elsheikh, MBBCh, MSc, Deanery of Biomedical Sciences at Edinburgh Medical School, University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Dr Randa Elsheikh is a plastic and reconstructive surgery resident at October 6 University Hospital, Giza, Egypt, and a Master of Science in Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases candidate at the University of Edinburgh. She started her clinical research career early in medical school and has since published multiple publications in international journals. She has also actively taken part in several international collaborations in the field of surgery, serving as hospital lead in some of them. She acted as a peer-reviewer for multiple medical journals and is currently a research instructor for the Online Research Club, Nagasaki, Japan, a non-profit international organization helping to introduce medical students to clinical research. She has a special interest in medical education, patient safety, global surgery, clinical microbiology, and infectious diseases.

Effective healthcare education is crucial to producing skilled healthcare professionals capable of navigating the complexities of modern medicine. From curriculum development and active learning approaches to research methodologies and assessment strategies, ongoing innovation in medical training and education ensures that healthcare providers can deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. This Collection showcased innovative new research in this field from across a wide diversity of healthcare settings. Topics of interest included:
