BMC Medical Education calls researchers to submit their work to our Collection on Faculty development in medical education. We aim to highlight innovative practices, programs, and research that enhance the skills and competencies of medical educators. Topics of interest include faculty development programs, medical educator training, clinical teaching skills, and the integration of educational technology, with a focus on improving the quality of education in the medical field.

Tauseef Ahmad, PhD, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia

Dr Ahmad holds a PhD from NIMS University, India, with expertise in education quality and delivery, particularly at King Saud University (KSU). Since May 2011, he has been part of KSU’s College of Medicine, specializing in assessment and evaluation. As an exam and research analyst, he has led workshops on medical assessments, faculty development, and information sciences in medical education. Dr Ahmad has published over 80 articles in Information Science, Education, and Public Health in esteemed journals, significantly impacting research. He also serves on editorial boards of prominent journals, contributing to academic discourse and mentoring future researchers.
 

Sateesh Arja, PhD, Avalon University School of Medicine, Curaçao 

Dr Arja is a Professor of Medical Education and the Dean of the School of Medicine at Avalon University School of Medicine. He has expertise in curriculum and faculty development, assessments, change management, and accreditation. He led his institution's self-study task force committees for five accreditation site visits. He is an Associate Editor for the Medical Science Educator and Associate Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Advances in Medical Education and Practice. He is an Editorial Board Member for BMC Medical Education and the Journal of Advances in Medical Education and Professionalism. He is on the board of Directors for the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE). 
 

Veena Singaram, PhD, University of KwaZulu, South Africa

As a Health Professions Educationalist, Dr Singaram has made significant contributions to the field through her extensive publishing in accredited peer-reviewed journals, which highlight multidisciplinary and international collaborations. She has successfully supervised numerous Master’s and PhD students and has been an active participant at several global conferences. Her contributions to higher education have been recognized with numerous awards and positions on various Editorial Boards. She holds a KIPRIME fellowship at the Karolinska Institute and serves as the Head of Health Professions Education (HPE) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Additionally, Dr Singaram is deeply engaged in HPE research and faculty development initiatives, both in national and international programs.

About the Collection

BMC Medical Education is calling for submissions to our Faculty development in medical education Collection. Faculty development is essential to fostering high-quality teaching and learning, curriculum development, mentorship, and leadership, ensuring that medical education evolves to meet the needs of students, trainees, and the healthcare system.

This Collection aims to highlight research and insights into effective faculty development strategies, programs, and outcomes. We welcome submissions that explore novel approaches, evaluate existing initiatives, and identify best practices in faculty development across diverse medical education contexts.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, implementation, and evaluation of faculty development programs
  • Training in competency-based education, interprofessional teaching, and cultural competence
  • Development of teaching skills for clinical educators, including bedside teaching and simulation-based learning
  • Leadership training and mentorship development for faculty members
  • Utilization of technology, such as virtual reality or online platforms, in faculty development
  • Assessment of the impact of faculty development on student outcomes and institutional performance
  • Approaches to fostering resilience and preventing burnout among medical educators
  • Strategies for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within faculty development initiatives


All manuscripts submitted to this journal, including those submitted to collections and special issues, are assessed in line with our editorial policies and the journal’s peer review process.
